New York, NY – In a series of critical meetings at the United Nations last week, Ahmet Yıldız, the recently appointed Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the United Nations, has actively participated in discussions that underscore Türkiye’s commitment to international peace and humanitarian assistance.
At a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council, Ambassador Yıldız addressed the pressing challenges faced by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Celebrating 75 years of service, UNRWA has been a pivotal organization in providing aid and protection to Palestinian refugees. Ambassador Yıldız encouraged all nations to bolster their support for the agency. Highlighting Türkiye’s role, he mentioned, “As the Chair of the Working Group on the Financing of the UNRWA, we are fully committed to supporting the agency’s crucial efforts.”
A day before his significant engagement at the session, Ambassador Yıldız participated in an open debate at the Security Council on the topic “Maintenance of international peace and security: Role of young persons in addressing security challenges in the Mediterranean.” During the session, he emphasized Türkiye’s readiness to contribute to a just, equitable, and peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Mediterranean region.
These back-to-back engagements at the United Nations has recorded as one of the reflections of Türkiye’s increasingly proactive stance in international diplomacy with it’s special emphasis on humanitarian efforts.
