By Janet Ekstract, ISTANBUL- On October 9, speaking at the opening ceremony for the 2025-2026 Higher Education Academic Year at Bestepe Nation Congress and Culture Center -Turkish President Erdogan said Turkiye will join a Gaza task force that will monitor the ceasefire agreement. As Erdogan explained: “We will meticulously monitor the implementation of the agreed -upon terms.” Erdogan added that Turkiye is very happy with the agreement signed by Israel and Hamas, adding “You know, we have been working intensely for a long time to stop the bloodshed in Gaza and establish a ceasefire.” The Turkish leader said: “From now on, urgently, ensuring comprehensive humanitarian aid reaches Gaza, the exchange of hostages and prisoners, Israel immediately stopping its attacks, and ensuring withdrawal to designated lines are of great importance.”
The Turkish president said that Turkiye along with the international community, will be supporting reconstruction activities in Gaza. Erdogan noted: “Our goal is to stop the genocide and bring peace to the region as soon as possible.” He added, “Our Gazan brothers are the nation that most deserves peace, tranquility and security in the world.” He thanked U.S. President Trump for demonstrating a strong will in moving the Israeli government toward a ceasefire. Erdogan lauded Qatar and Egypt for their instrumental efforts in the mediation: “I convey my gratitude, likewise, to Qatar and Egypt, who made important contributions in reaching the agreement.” He also praised Hamas: “I wholeheartedly congratulate the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas for their resolute and prudent attitudes.” The Turkish leader reiterated his support for Palestinians: “Turkiye will stand by the Palestinian people today and tomorrow as it did yesterday and will never leave them alone.”
