ISTANBUL- In a press conference later on Monday, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay explained procedures for financially supporting Turkiye’s quake victims. He said that in addition to 5,000 TL per month that donated money will also be given to quake survivors to rent homes. Oktay commented that 250 distribution centers will be set up for quake survivors to receive financial aid. He said quake survivors can call to 144 to get info on financial aid payments. The Turkish vice-president also said: “So even a penny of that money will not be used for any other intended purposes.” In addition, The Ministry of Justice has deployed an additional 304 prosecutors and 1,275 personnel.for investigations into building collapses as well as security issues in the affected regions.
Oktay addressed the issue of security regarding news reports about a lack of security. Oktay countered that by saying the gendarmerie and police forces are there. He added that the Turkish army has secured the borders so no illegal migration can take place. Oktay said disinformation is being spread.
Meanwhile, Qatar is donating World Cup housing for quake victims. In addition, sleeping bags, tents, heaters and other essential items are being sent to quake survivors across the vast expanse of eastern Turkiye devastated by the quake. Currently, U.S., German and French teams are working non-stop to rescue three people trapped deep under building rubble in Hatay after 178 hours. To date, over 35,000 people have lost their lives in the twin quakes.
