In a press conference at the White House late Monday afternoon, Nation Security Council Coordinator John Kirby said that President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had a 30-minure phone call Monday, with Biden reiterating the U.S. position not to invade Rafah. Kirby said the president told Netanyahu he needs to reopen the Kerem Shalom border crossing he shut down on Monday after rocket fire from Hamas – to allow humanitarian aid to get through.
Kirby also said that he could not reveal details about the ceasefire deal that Hamas agreed to on Monday but that it was still being discussed. Kirby reiterated that any major military operation in Gaza would put civilians at severe risk.
