NEW YORK (TURKISH JOURNAL) – Pia Bozyel – The US vetoed a resolution at the UN Security Council (UNSC) which called for a humanitarian pause in Gaza to get aid in.
The vote to Brazil’s resolution took place at the UNSC and although it received 12 votes in favor, the veto of the permanent member US, led to its rejection.
Brazil and Russia were the two countries who abstained.
US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said her country was disappointed that the resolution did not refer to “Israel’s right to self defense”.
The resolution, condemning all attacks on civilians, had called for a humanitarian pause in Gaza to allow UN and partners to bring in aid to the region that is under full Israeli siege.
A Russian resolution was rejected at the UNSC on Monday. The resolution had called for a humanitarian ceasefire, with no mention of Hamas attacks.
