UNITED NATIONS (TURKISH JOURNAL) – Pia Bozyel- The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warned that 2023 is on track to become the warmest year since pre-industrial times with September being the hottest month ever.
Geneva based WMO, published a written statement, warning about the “enormous temperature anomalies”
The statement, making reference to pre-industrial period, claimed that September was recorded to be 1.75 degrees warmer.
WMO Secretary General Petteri Taalas said “The temperature anomalies are enormous – far bigger than anything we have ever seen in the past. Antarctic winter sea ice extent was the lowest on record for the time of year.”
When asked about these findings, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, said this was not surprising.
Dujarric said he hopes this would motivate people and especially leaders around the world to make “bold decisions” and take “bold actions” to fight climate change.
