By Janet Ekstract ISTANBUL- Even though the MeToo movement made great headway to further expose abuse against women in some of the largest corporate corridors in America, it’s still not enough to keep women everywhere from being demonized. Patriarchal society enjoys making females their scapegoat du jour because it makes sense to certain politicians to refuse that males take responsibility for something that they are as intimately connected to as women: THE ABORTION ISSUE. Imagine demonizing a woman who already has two children and who MUST terminate her pregnancy because of a fatal fetal diagnosis that is not aborted would endanger her health and leave her infertile. Despite the Texas Supreme Court saying OK to Kate Cox’s lawsuit to get the abortion – it was Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton who managed to get the court’s order to allow the abortion – to be BLOCKED.
It’s OUTRAGEOUS that one man should wield so much power when the TEXAS STATE SUPREME COURT RULED SHE COULD GET THE ABORTION. Kate Cox’s fetus had what is known as an extreme chromosomal abnormality known as trisomy 18. Paxton chose to IGNORE common sense, compassion and logic: why bring a child into the world at any cost? This fetus was shown by amniocentesis and ultrasound to be COMPLETELY DEFORMED WITH NO CHANCE OF SURVIVAL since it’s skull could never form. This begs the question: Why should any man have the right to tell a woman where, when, why and how she can control her body and her right to terminate her pregnancy under ANY circumstances. The new abortion laws were supposed to allow for such circumstances and once again we see women becoming the VICTIMS of MALE DECISIONS that bear no fruit and only ill will toward females.
What ALL American women and young teens must do is rise up against this tyranny until the laws are reversed back to allowing abortion for all women and girls, no matter the circumstances. Have we forgotten the umpteen cases of INCEST in the U.S. where young girls are forced to birth babies that THEY NEVER AGREED TO, BUT WERE PERPETRATED ON THEM BY A MAN. Again, the overriding patriarchal society is blaming women for pregnancies that men are responsible for. If white Republican males in power don’t want abortion then they should keep all men away from women so no one copulates. Because when a man decides to lay with a woman, he is EQUALLY RESPONSIBLE for that pregnancy and has NO RIGHT to dictate to a woman whether she can or can’t terminate her pregnancy.
The utter lack of compassion shown by Paxton should be untenable and disgusting enough for women everywhere to take to the streets and INSIST on equal rights. There are no equal rights in America until women are treated with the UTMOST RESPECT. Consider 2023 current statistics on domestic violence where 1 in 3 women (35.6%) and 1 in 4 men (28.5%) experience rape, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner – the hidden stats are most likely higher since according to crime stats, a woman or a girl is attacked every three minutes in some parts of the U.S. – even kidnapped. Consider reports in the media of widespread sexual violence against women in the U.S. Military, U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. Statistics reveal that in 2022, there were 8,942 reports of sexual assault across the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. This does NOT include the multitudes of incidences that have gone unreported for fear of reprisal. Of those cases, 7,400 came from troops who said the assault occurred during military service.
This ARCHAIC attitude of ‘birth children at any cost’ has got to END. Abortion is a REALITY of life, period. Women will need abortions for various reasons over their lifetime and that is frankly, NONE OF A MAN’S BUSINESS. Should a young girl of 8 or 10 in India or America or any country be forced to birth a rapist’s baby? Where is the punishment for the man who forced himself upon an innocent girl – now the victim because SHE WAS VICTIMIZED BY A MAN AGAIN. Something MUST be done and done QUICK to end this archaic witch-hunt on women and girls which will never end if a complete stop is not put to such dishonorable, heinous behavior by men. Be assured that if the shoe were on the other foot and a man was pregnant and his life was threatened – he would be granted the procedure with no questions asked.
