By Janet Ekstract ISTANBUL – Contemporary Istanbul (CIF) 2025, Istanbul’s leading international art fair is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special curated show entitled Focus: America that underscores the influence of the contemporary art scene in America – especially the New York art scene instrumental in shaping global cultural narratives. Institutional leaders from major U.S. museums will participate in a series of panels, exhibitions and networking events which provides an opportunity for artists, curators and collectors to make and expand their connections in the art world. CIF will also host Dialogues with the theme “Dispersing Coordinates: Istanbul and the Shifting Map of Art.” Its aim is to reflect on global cultural shifts in the art world and Istanbul’s evolving position within it. This year’s edition also expands its participation with leading museums and art organizations on a global scale with special presentations. The Dialogues program will feature speakers including the Honorary President of the Guggenheim Museum, Jennifer Stockman, Director of the Brooklyn Museum, Anne Pasternak and Director of the Sakip Sabanci Museum, Ahu Antmen. Contributions from UBS Digital Art Museum (Hamburg), Sigg Art Foundation (Le Castellet), Barjeel Art Foundation (Sharjah) among many others which emphasizes Contemporary Istanbul’s commitment to international dialogue.
Contemporary Istanbul’s main partner is Akbank along with colloborative partnerships with Tersane Istanbul, BMW and Borusan Otomotiv. Other firms sponsoring the exhibiton include Turkish Airlines, Miles & Smiles, Pernod Richard Turkey, Tosyalı Holding, Trendyol, Magdeburger Sigorta and the Marmara Group. For the first time in Turkiye at this art fair, to Commemorate 50 years of the BMW Art Car Collection, the 2025 edition includes a rare view of two iconic models: a design by Alexander Calder and a more current design by Julie Mehretu.
