By James E. Pogue – NEW YORK – Now, ‘The Donald’ has gone and done it, he’s stooped so low to get votes that now he’s telling Jewish donors that presidential candidate, Vice-President Kamala Harris will “abandon” them and Israel if she’s elected president. The problem with Trump’s latest remarks is that he forgot one major detail: Harris is married to the Second Gentleman who just happens to be, you guessed it – Jewish! Trump also forgot that Harris would never “abandon” Israel or Jewish constituents because regardless of whatever she thinks privately – she knows how crucial Israel is to the U.S. It makes this author wonder about the level of Trump’s IQ (we know about his EQ) because has he forgotten how important Israel is to Christians and those who have a stake in the ‘holy land’? Clearly, Trump as always is grasping for straws in his remarks because he has nothing of substance in the way of policy or opinion to offer the American people. His remarks to his donors sound just as inflammatory as the remarks he made about “black jobs.” This is what Trump said to Jewish donors on September 5: “You’re going to be abandoned if she becomes president. And I think you need to explain that to your people…You’re not going to have an Israel if she becomes president.” When he says “your people,” it smacks of antisemitism, no matter that Trump’s son-in-law is an orthodox Jew.
Trump will say whatever comes to his mind and he doesn’t care whether it’s false or what constituents believe or think about him. The sad fact is that those who actually believe Trump will do what he says, can be put into the same category as those who believed in Hitler and then woke up to the horrific reality that Hitler was a madman. Trump’s niece Mary has repeatedly spoken about how “very dangerous” Trump is and just how inflammatory his rhetoric really is. It’s precisely because Trump has no concrete plan of his own for how to run the White House, that he continually makes rash promises that he can never keep and certainly never intends to keep. The problem with those who blindly follow Trump is that they do not do the necessary research to find out what he didn’t do when he was president and what he certainly won’t do if he becomes president again. Those who blindly endorse Trump also do not ever respond to the question of why Trump uses abusive epithets, insulting language and consistently misconstrues the truth. Those three characteristics do not reflect the type of character required for him to be the president of anything.
As White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre pointed out in her September 6 press briefing about the former Trump administration, she said: “We cannot forget what the Biden-Harris administration inherited – a once in a century pandemic.” As Jean-Pierre highlighted: “The last administration didn’t bother to have a plan” for the pandemic and it was the present administration that mobilized a nationwide vaccination plan that got businesses up and running and people back to work. The former Trump administration was rife with chaos but the Biden-Harris administration put stimulus checks into people’s bank accounts during covid. While Trump admonished the former head of the National Health Institute and undermined the CDC’s recommendations on wearing masks to prevent the spread of Covid. – hundreds of thousands of American bodies lay dying and dead in hospital corridors and streets. When you think about Trump, do not be mistaken or forget that he has created numerous provocations and that the Republicans have taken their bidding from him even as Trump the private citizen.
Let’s not forget why gun violence in America is still the hotbed issue it remains – it’s because the Republicans refused to pass laws that the Democrats are in favor of, that would deter gun violence. It’s also because a certain portion of America thinks their rights to “bear arms” under the American Constitution’s Second Amendment would somehow be “violated” if they couldn’t own assault rifles. That’s where the problem lies, not just with divisive figures like Trump but with people who do not do the research, who do not properly vet presidential candidates to find out what their past actions have been. Trump’s past shows you more of what you would get if he were ever re-elected to the office of president of the United States. This author wants to remind you that should you choose to put the blinders on in this most crucial election period – you will wake up to never having the freedom to vote ever again. As Trump so succinctly said a month ago: “If you vote for me, you won’t ever have to vote again.”
Now that’s a sobering thought especially in an election year where as President Biden has reminded us over and over again – “Democracy is on the line,” yours and mine.
