ISTANBUL- In a phone call on Wednesday, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan gave a stern warning to Russia’s General Patrushev, Secretary of the Russian Security Council. U.S. National Security Council (NSC) Spokesperson Emily Horne released a formal statement about the call with the Russian general.

The purpose of the call was to reiterate to Russia, the firm stance the U.S. takes on what the statement said is “Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.” Sullivan expressed the U.S. position of “firm and clear opposition” to Russia’s assault on Ukraine and told Patrushev that America is committed to “imposing costs” on Russia to “support the defense of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.” Sullivan added that NATO’s eastern flank has been reinforced in continual “full coordination with our Allies and partners.”

The U.S. national security advisor further emphasized to General Patrushev that if Russia is really serious about diplomacy then it “should stop attacking Ukrainian cities and towns.” Sullivan gave an ominous warning to the General that there will be “consequences and implications” if Russia makes any move to use chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine.
