İSTANBUL- A major game-changer in the fight against COVID is a unique, new nasal spray invented by Turkish researchers that has the potential to block viruses from clinging to cells. The spray offers wide spectrum protection against Omicron variants, flu strains and other viruses, according to the group of scientists who developed the spray.
Researchers at Bilkent University led by Associate Professor Urartu Seker from the National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) in Ankara, developed the spray and Seker explained the secret to its effectiveness lies in its genetic engineering, instrumental in the spray’s production. He told the press this week, that a study on red algae revealed organic protection against viruses, as Seker explained: “We discovered in our animal trials that this lectin protein prevented the infection.” He said that it didn’t matter how close a person was to the point of viral contact. Seker added: “Animals living in cages were protected against viruses, thanks to this protein – without a need for masks or protective measures.” He said the protein can provide protection against other viruses affecting the human respiratory system while allowing the immune system ample time to combat the virus.
