By Janet Ekstract ISTANBUL-Reporters Without Borders (RSF) known as the international media watchdog, filed a complaint at the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israel for the deaths of Palestinian journalists in Gaza. RSF, based in Paris, said it is requesting the ICC’s prosecutor investigate reported war crimes against at least nine Palestinian reporters, committed by the Israeli army since December 15. RSF Advocacy and Assistance Director Antoine Bernard told the press: “Those who kill journalists are attacking the public’s right to information, which is even more essential in times of conflict.” The ICC had announced in January 2024 that it was investigating potential crimes against journalists since Israel’s war on Gaza began which resulted in the deaths of over 100 reporters. Meanwhile, RSF said it has “reasonable grounds for thinking that some of these journalists were deliberately killed and that the others were the victims of deliberate Israel Defense Force (IDF) attacks against civilians. This is the third complaint made by RSF which is related to eight Palestinian journalists killed between December 20 and May 20 and another who suffered injuries. In a statement, RSF said: “All concerned journalists were kille (or injured) in the course of their work.”attacking the public’s right to information, which is even more essential in times of conflict.” Last week, ICC prosecutor Karim Khan, asked the court to issue arrest warrants for top Israeli and Hamas leaders for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
