The US Coast Guard reported that they received a debris signal in the area where the submarine “Titan” disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean while making a tourist expedition to the wreck of the Titanic.

In a statement made by Coast Guard officials, it was shared that a remote-controlled underwater vehicle reached a wreckage signal in the area where the last signal was received from the submarine that disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday.

Officials said it was not yet clear whether the wreckage belonged to the Titan submarine and that “experts are evaluating the information”.

The Coast Guard’s North American unit announced on Twitter that it had deployed the remotely operated underwater vehicle L’Atalante to the area in question for search and rescue operations.

Titan’s communication with the ship “Polar Prince”, which set off with an oxygen supply of about 96 hours and the journey time was estimated at 2.5 hours, was cut off 1 hour and 45 minutes after the dive. Underwater, where GPS does not work, the submarine was guided by messages from the ship on the surface.

In a statement made by the US Coast Guard, it was stated that the Canadian military search aircraft detected some sounds under the water that they thought might belong to the submarine; the sounds in question were heard at intervals of 30 minutes. However, it was not clear whether these sounds belonged to the submarine.

The US Navy had also made available a lifting system capable of pulling heavy submarine objects to a depth of 6,000 meters to assist in rescue efforts if the submarine was found.

Experts had predicted that the oxygen in the tourist submarine vehicle, which had not been heard from since Sunday, would run out as of today. (AA)
