Istanbul, Turkey (January 23, 2024) – Divan Association, a Turkish non-profit organization that promotes diplomacy and international relations, has partnered with Turkish Journal, a New York-based newspaper at the heart of the United Nations that serves the Turkish-American community, to provide journalism internships for Turkish students.
The internship program is designed to give students the opportunity to gain experience and skills in digital journalism, while also contributing to the work of a professional news organization. Students will work on a variety of projects, including reporting on the United Nations, writing articles, and managing social media accounts.
“This partnership is a great opportunity for our students to develop their journalism skills,” said Dr. Cihangir İşbilir, president of Divan. “Turkish Journal is an important publication that reaches Turkish-Americans in the United States. By interning at this newspaper, our students can gain experience and also serve the Turkish community.”
Dilek Kaya, editor-in-chief of Turkish Journal, also expressed her satisfaction with the partnership. “Our partnership with Divan’s Diplomacy Academy is very valuable to us,” she said. “It is an honor to be able to work with these talented young people and follow the world agenda together. We are happy to be able to offer internships to young journalists and support them in their professional development. On behalf of the Turkish Journal family, I would like to thank Dr. Cihangir İşbilir, president of Divan Association, for his invaluable support.”
Vildan Kabasakal, a student who participated in the internship program and also coordinates the Human Diplomacy activities in the association, said that the program helped her to improve her news writing skills in two languages and to learn how to obtain and disseminate accurate information in the face of disinformation.
Seda Karakaya, another student who interned at Turkish Journal, said that the program is a “valuable opportunity for young people who are interested in Turkish-American relations and want to learn about the digital journalism profession.”
Students expressed their satisfaction and gratitude for the opportunity, and Divan & Turkish Journal noted that the partnership is expected to grow even further in the coming days.
